Cechetti style ballet classes for adults
About our adult ballet programme
Our adult ballet programme offers a welcoming and flexible approach to learning ballet, whether you are a complete beginner, returning to ballet, or a more experienced dancer. Ballet is a great way to build strength, improve posture, and stay active at any age.
Adult Ballet Classes & Levels
Adult Open Ballet Class – “Barre and Bubbles”
We offer a once-a-week open adult class designed for all levels, from beginners to experienced dancers. The focus is on building technique, posture, strength, and musicality in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. We also enjoy staying after class to socialise a few times a year, making it a welcoming and friendly experience both in and out of the studio.
Ballet Workshops
We regularly host ballet workshops and special classes with guest teachers, offering dancers the opportunity to learn, grow, and be inspired in a fun setting.
Adult Cecchetti Syllabus Classes
For adult dancers looking to progress further, additional classes are available following the Cecchetti syllabus. These classes provide the consistency and training required for those wanting to work towards examinations or who want to develop further.
The syllabus for adults include:
- Foundation
- Intermediate
- Advanced I & II
Ballet Teacher Training
For dancers who have passed the relevant levels, we offer a pathway into the Cecchetti teaching accreditation. Students can work towards their Associate qualification, the first level of Cecchetti teacher certification. Sarah has successfully guided three students through their Associate qualification, each now a studio owner, and continues to support dancers working towards their teaching goals.

I began learning ballet at the age of four at The McDonald Academy of Dancing in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The beautiful studio environment instilled a deep love of dance, and I spent many happy years training in ballet (Cecchetti Method), modern, contemporary, tap, and even Highland dance.
After completing my major ballet exams, I pursued an academic career as a high school mathematics teacher, holding a BSc in Mathematics and Psychology. However, I was drawn back into the ballet world when my eldest daughter began classes, reigniting my passion for this beautiful art form.
I qualified as an Associate of the Cecchetti Society of Southern Africa in 2004 and went on to open The Dance Academy Zimbabwe in 2006.
I hold my Associate Diploma, Anatomy for Licentiate, and have been awarded the Licentiate Assessment twice. I am also accredited to teach Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT).
Over the years, I have guided many students through their examinations, trained three associates who are now studio owners, and produced numerous stage shows and recitals.
After relocating to South Africa, I opened The Dance Academy SA in 2022. We are building a dance space that strives for excellence while embracing the whole child, creating an environment that is both physically and emotionally safe.
I truly love my work and the families I get to connect with every day. Ballet remains a lifelong passion.
